Local produce is important because...
- It is healthier, because it is fresher and more nutritious.
- It has less food miles.
- It uses less fuel and releases less greenhouse gases.
- It leads to less waste.
- It supports the viability of independent primary producers, hobby farmers and home gardeners.
- It helps to maintain farmland in our region.
- Through improving farm profitability, encourages sustainable farming practices.
- It contributes to the local economy of our community.
- It contributes to the social capital of our community.
- It encourages dialogue around issues surrounding farming
