Proposed Community Garden Project for Atherton.

Tableland Community Link, Outcomes & Mission Australia have obtained a funding grant via Blueprint for the Bush Strengthening Rural Communities - Our Place Our Future funding initiative.
The overall aim is to develop an organic community garden in Atherton whereby people withdisabilities, youth at risk, long term unemployed people and the general community can volunteer and work together to establish and maintain a sustainable fruit and vegetable
garden.

At this preliminary stage this project needs community support, so if you have an interest in community gardens in general or this project in particular, please contact Lousie, the project coordinator and let her know.

International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture for Food, Energy and Industry

National Tree Day on Sunday July 27

Landcare Australia is contacting all 4,000 landcare and other groups to ask you to get involved in Planet Ark’s National Tree Day on Sunday July 27.

National Tree Day is now Australia’s biggest community tree planting day. Over the past thirteen years, 1.8 million volunteers have helped Landcare and Planet Ark to plant almost 12 million native trees at over 20,000 sites Australia-wide.

Claude Lewenz Visits FNQ in early July

The Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) in partnership with Ecosmarte Australasia is presenting NZ based urban sustainability expert and author, Calude Lewenz, in a regional tour of presentations. Anyone interested in urban sustainability, community building and creating livable neighbourhoods will be interested in Claude Lewenz. Claude published his book "How to build a Village" on these subjects in 2007, and which immediate met international acclaim. In early July he will tour the region, visiting Innisfail, Malanda, Cairns and Townsville.

Entry is FREE but places are limited, so please reserve your place.
Claude will be appearing on the following dates and venues

Permeculture working bee and demonstration in Earlville

The next People Energy Transfer (P.E.T.) Day, coordinated by Permaculture Cainrs, will be on Saturday 5th July in Earville and include  a Compost Pile, Banana Circle, Garden bed rehabilitation. The group will be helping local resident Vanilda to get a section of her garden bed, on the northern side of her property, under control and in a more manageable state. This is a chance to learn more about Permaculture design, retrofitting existing structures and practical things like sheet mulching, compost making, banana circles and Zone IV establishment. There will be plenty to do and loads of fun to be had so don’t miss the opportunity to help Vanilda out and learn something for yourself at the same time.
