| International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture for Food, Energy and Industry |
|
"Sustainability on Food Feed, Fiber, Water, Energy: Science, Technologies, and Global Strategies" will be held on July 2-6 2008 in Sapporo, Japan. SGP INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT (SGP-ICSAE), which is closely related with the ICSA2008, will be held parallel.
The present challenges to ensure secure and safe supplies of food, feed, fiber, water, and energy for the world population are immense. The ability of the Earth to sustain humankind suffers tremendous pressures - from greenhouse gas emissions, the growth of the world's population, and degradation of water, to the depletion of non-renewable, natural resources.
Agriculture - the foundation of modern civilization - supports culture, economic progress, and human dignity. Humankind cannot ignore the call to steward the Earth’s limited natural resources rationally, equitably, and efficiently by using sound agricultural practices. The purpose of the Conference is to provide an international forum for scientists and researchers in the field of sustainable agriculture to exchange information and achievements, to ascertain the challenges of the future, and to offer ideas for agricultural practices “…that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” The next Summit of G8 will be held in Toya-lake, near Sapporo, in Hokkaido, Japan on July 7-9, 2008. In this summit, important topics are sustainability and environmental issues, empathizing global warming and climate changing. The Hokkaido University decided to set Summit week of International Symposium, Workshop and Forums for July 2-6, 2008. This offers a good chance to announce ICSA appeal to the world, which will reflect the output of the conference. The conference will issue the "Sapporo Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture for food, energy and industry".
