| Mareeba-Dimbulah Sustainable Farming Incentives Scheme |

Call for Applications Farmers in the Mareeba-Dimbulah Water Supply Area of the Mitchell River Catchment are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 to implement farm practices that improve profitability and sustainability on farms, reduce soil and nutrient loss, and improve water quality. Grants will be awarded to individual farmers or community/industry groups to help offset the cost of implementing new and innovative best management practices. Grant applications will be assessed on a competitive basis. Applicants will be expected to include in-kind or financial contributions of at least 50% of the overall project costs. Eligible activities include adoption of new farming systems such as minimum tillage, crop rotation or controlled traffic systems, irrigation or drainage modifications, filter strip or sediment controls, improved fertiliser application systems, revegetation work, monitoring systems and property planning.Grants will generally be within an upper limit of $10,000 for individual farmers or $20,000 for joint applications or community/industry groups. Larger grants may be considered for exceptional projects with significant overall benefits for natural resource management in the area. This incentive scheme is funded by the National Landcare Programme and is being implemented by Northern Gulf Resource Management Group in conjunction with Terrain NRM and the Mitchell River Catchment Management Group.
