NSDA member to speak about the Human Health Effects of Fruits and Vegetables
NSDA Management Committee member Sinan Ogun has been asked to submit a paper at the 2nd International Symposium for the Human Health Effects of Fruits and Vegetables (Oct 9-13 in Houston Texas ). He would like to invite any other interested member with an interest in the topic to possibly co-submit.

Landholders wanted for trial forestry plantings

Tony Page (JCU, Cairns) is involved in a project with Wescorp examining the possibility of establishing some Agarwood (Aquilaria crassna) growth trials on private land in north Queensland. He is therefore seeking landholders interested in a trial planting.

Free Soil Health workshops sponsored by NSDA

Two Soil Health workshops will be run by Total Grower Services on the 28 & 29 March, sponsored by NSDA & BFA (Biological Farmers Australia). The venues will be Tully and the Atherton Tablelands. The workshops seek to explain and discuss:

  • What is soil health; the physical, chemical and biological factors
  • How productive results can be obtained by working with ecological systems and learning from the environment
  • Management practices that can improve biological diversity, nutrient recycling, water use efficiency and increase stable soil humus
  • How these practices will benefit catchment areas

Landcare launches CarbonSMART
 

Landcare Australia has launched its groundbreaking carbon emissions offset project, Landcare CarbonSMART, which has the potential to reward landholders that have revegetated parts of their property by paying them an income for up to 30 years. Landcare Australia is urging landholders across Australia - particularly those who have undertaken landcare plantings since 1990 - to find out how they can potentially secure ongoing annual income through the project.

Vegetation Incentive Fund calls for proposals

The Exchange Incentive Fund aims to help regional practitioners better manage their natural resources by increasing their access to current knowledge and research on native vegetation; and generating new knowledge through links to relevant researchers and organisations. Grants to around $5,000 are available to eligible regional groups and networks, and researchers, for events or activities that increase knowledge of native vegetation. Projects are to be carried out before 1 January 2008.
