A new Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme offers significant subsidies on the purchase of satellite mobile phones. The scheme is part of the Australian Government's response to rural, regional and remote mobile telephony needs, and operates until June 2009. A subsidy of up to $1200 is provided to eligible applicants who live or work in areas without terrestrial mobile phone coverage.
