The Landholders' Guide to Vegetation Clearing Applications is now available from the Department of Natural Resources & Water. The department has produced this new guide in clear, plain English, to help landholders submitting applications to clear native vegetation. The guide includes information on when a permit is required, how to apply, how applications are assessed, and how NRW can help applicants.

Free Grant Writing Workshop

This free one-day event is in two parts - a morning seminar on where and how to hook into the money with ideas for effective submissions for good projects, and a practical hands-on afternoon workshop in actually preparing submissions and budgets. Workshops will be held in Ravenshoe & Atherton. Organisations may send their own personnel along to strengthen their skills and effectiveness, or people can enrol themselves.

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Survey on Natural Resource Management (NRM) Issues

The preliminary findings from the survey on Natural Resource Management on Australian farms 2004-05 have been released on the ABS website including:         

*  more than 9 out of 10 farmers (91% of agricultural establishments) undertook some form of activity to prevent or manage NRM issues

* weeds were the most commonly reported NRM issue, and weed-related issues affected 73% of agricultural businesses

*approximately 63% of agricultural establishments reporting the presence of native vegetation undertook some form of vegetation management activities during the year.
