EcoV - The Global Organics & Sustainability Show running
from 5 - 7 May 2006 in Bendigo has
launched a major competition for schools. The EcoV Greenplanet Organic Vegie
Challenge is very simple. Schools, both primary and secondary, just have to
produce up to five kilograms of five types of organic vegetables by Friday 5
May 2006 - the opening day of EcoV.

All interested people are invited to
a meeting of the Douglas Shire Local Produce Group, part of the regional Local
Food Network (LFN) movement. Although the group formed quite recently (early
this year), they are working towards the release of a "Why is Local Produce
Important?" booklet & a "Design a Local Produce Logo"
competition. Other regional LFNs will also uptake these initiatives.

Cyclone Larry has devastated most of the organic farms in
the far north of Queensland. All of these farms have lost their crops and had
serious damage to infrastructure such as houses, sheds, water supplies etc.
Many of the orchards have had trees ripped out of the ground or smashed and
shredded.

The Far North Queensland Water Strategy (FNQWS) is currently
in progress and is due to be finalised in 2007. As demand for water increases
in the region, the FNQWS aims to provide the guidelines for maintaining a
sustainable water supply. The FNQWS team is committed to creating a strategy
that balances economic, social, environmental and natural resource
responsibilities.

The Board of FNQ NRM
Ltd is calling for nominations from members of the Wet Tropics NRM community
interested in attending the 2006 Queensland Landcare Conference. As it has in previous years, the Board is
offering to fully sponsor (flights, accommodation, registration, meals) two
members from the Wet Tropics NRM region associated with Landcare, Catchment
Management, Traditional Owner or environmental groups to attend the conference.

sought from women in rural and regional industries aged 36 or older for Corporate Governance Scholarships worth over $10,000. The scholarships
will enable the applicants to complete a five-day residential Australian
Institute of Company Directors course. The
course aims to improve governance, leadership and networking skills, to enable
participants to make a lasting contribution to their industries and
communities.

working in rural and regional industries to apply for one of 14, fully-funded scholarships to attend the AICD corporate
governance training course. Indigenous Australians are encouraged to apply.

The DPI&F Elaine Brough
Award is open to individual women over 18 years of age residing in Queensland.
The Award provides an opportunity for a woman working in the fields of science,
primary industries, agribusiness and natural resource management to undertake
professional development that will enable them to contribute further to
profitable primary industries in Queensland. Award winners receive a bursary of
$5,000.
