Vision FNQ 2025- Forum findings
What do we want FNQ to look like in 20 years time? What is our vision of this area's future? These are the questions addressed in a public forum on 11th July @ the TANKS as part of the 2007 emPower Energy Fest. About forty people participated in a lively brainstorming session and together we came up with a wonderful vision of what we would FNQ to look like by 2025, which was supplied to the FNQ 2025 planners.

We recognised that our local area is highly susceptible to climate change. We risk losing much of our Great Barrier Reef, much of our World Heritage rainforest, our cloud forests and unique endemic species, and Cairns is likely to turn into the Venice of the tropics unless humanity as a whole can change fast enough from our presently CO2 intensive and destructive way of life to true sustainability.

It was exiting to realise that we can achieve a less stressful and even higher standard of living by using renewable energies, quiet and non-polluting electric cars and organic farming - and we have all the required knowledge and technologies already. We developed a vision of sustainability and of an FNQ that becomes a model for sustainable living and showcases local and global solutions to the many tourists that come here, so future generations can still enjoy the reef and the rainforest?
